Battery Swap System
for Heavy-Duty Electric Trucks

Our mission

We address the urgent need to provide the infrastructure for the decarbonization of road transportation

At E▪︎HAUL, we recognize the urgent need for action to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from road freight transportation by transitioning to electric vehicles.
With 50 million tons of CO2 emissions, road transport accounts for almost 10% of Germany's total annual greenhouse gas emissions. And over the past 30 years, these greenhouse gas emissions from road transport have increased by 30%.

As with passenger cars, heavy-duty trucks are undergoing a transition to electric drive. Due to the high mileage and energy consumption of heavy-duty vehicles, electrification of trucks offers significant CO2 savings potential: more than 100 tons of CO2 per vehicle per year. And thanks to better energy efficiency and the cost advantage in road tolls, electric trucks already have a TCO advantage today. But the lack of charging infrastructure remains the No. 1 obstacle.

Our Technology

Key features

E▪︎HAUL specializes in constructing and operating fully automated battery swap stations for heavy-duty electric trucks. The battery swap concept offers freight forwarders a quick and adaptable charging option while providing several benefits from a grid perspective. Our stations help manage grid connection demands, enable battery-to-battery charging, peak shaving, and bi-directional station-to-grid services. Additionally, our technology allows for direct energy feed-in from PV or wind farms, making it an even more attractive grid-friendly solution.

Why choose E▪︎HAUL?

With our innovative battery swap technology, we offer unparalleled benefits to trucking companies. By significantly reducing the total cost of ownership (TCO) compared to diesel trucks, our battery swap solution delivers cost savings while improving payload capacity through efficient range extension (no need to extend range with large & heavy batteries).

Our system provides flexibility by decoupling charging and swapping from break times, ensuring optimal fleet utilization.

In addition, our asset-light approach with battery leasing options provides financial flexibility. Not only is it a sustainable option that uses green energy and saves approximately 100 tons of CO2 emissions per truck, it also reduces the need for parking space and provides a compact and efficient solution compared to traditional cable charging methods.

And our swap stations can function as both public charging infrastructure along highways and dedicated charging infrastructure for logistics hubs.

About us

E▪︎HAUL is the official spin-off from the eHaul and the subsequent UniSwapHD research projects. As part of the eHaul research project, Europe’s first fully automated battery swap station for heavy-duty electric trucks was launched and has been operating daily ever since. Concurrently, the UniswapHD project is focused on standardizing battery swapping technology across truck OEMs.

The three founders know each other from their studies at TU Berlin. Jens brings a wealth of experience from six years in automotive consulting with a focus on vehicle development, followed by extensive research in eMobility, culminating in a PhD. He has been instrumental in leading both the eHaul and UniSwapHD research programs. David draws upon his expertise in operations and supply chain management, having spent nine years in supply chain consulting and subsequently assuming leadership roles in operations. He is responsible for driving operational excellence within E▪︎HAUL. Juliane has 14 years of financial experience in various industries, most recently as head of corporate controlling in a fast-growing automotive startup. As our CFO, she is overseeing our finance and controlling functions at E▪︎HAUL.
